Columbia, Missouri– Mizzou Volleyball checked in at No. 19 in the 2017 American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I Coaches Preseason Top 25 poll, announced Wednesday (Aug. 9) by the organization’s office.

Wednesday afternoon’s recognition marked the Tigers’ first appearance in the AVCA Preseason Top 25 poll since 2014. Overall, Mizzou has landed a spot on the preseason list six times under Wayne and Susan Kreklow‘s tenure.

“It’s always an honor to be recognized by your peers and to be named alongside some of the top programs across the country,” head coach Wayne Kreklow said. “We’ll face a number of competitive teams throughout our non-conference and conference schedule. We’re very excited to get things going in a couple of weeks!”

Mizzou will meet five programs ranked in the 2017 AVCA Preseason poll, highlighted by a matchup against No. 10 BYU at the Boise State Invitational. No. 12 Florida, No. 14 Kentucky, No. 22 San Diego and No. 23 Utah round out the Tigers’ preseason Top 25 foes.

Two additional 2017 opponents, Boise State and Texas A&M, also received votes in Wednesday’s preseason poll. Furthermore, seven teams who appeared in the 2016 NCAA Tournament await Mizzou on this year’s schedule.

The Tigers are coming off their second Southeastern Conference title in the past four years. Mizzou also advanced to the Sweet 16 during last season’s NCAA Tournament, marking its third Sweet 16 run under the Kreklows.

Coach Kreklow returns three AVCA All-Americans to this year’s roster, as redshirt senior Melanie Crow (Wildwood, Mo.), junior Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.) and redshirt senior Kira Larson (Fargo, N.D.) lead a talented 2017 Tigers squad.
